Write Google Queries

No thumb-typing required. Google.com will let you hand-write (finger-write) your queries on your smartphone or tablet. Google announced this feature two days ago. I haven’t been this excited since Google Wave.  But this will survive.  Just grab your iPhone, go to Google.com (should be your homepage anyway).  Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Settings”  One of the settings is “Handwrite.”  Just mark “Enable” and “Save” to start handwriting your search queries.

Take a look:

Unfortunately, Google still can’t tell me where my car keys are.

Updates Matter in SEO

Search engines constantly change and rankings constantly change.  Monitoring and performing updates matters.  Our recent redesign for Arlington Injury Attorney Law Firm of Machi & Associates addressed many changes in SEO practices over the past year.  We also added social buttons, canonical pages, and a few things we keep secret.  The results are in, and they are good.  We have made a jump to the top with our most important key phrases.  Here are the results:

  • For “arlington personal injury attorney” the site is number one in Google.
  • For “arlington texas personal injury attorney” the site is number one in Google.
  • For “arlington texas personal injury lawyer” the site is number one in Google.
  • For “arlington personal injury lawyer” the site is only behind lawyers.com and findlaw.com, two large, national lawfirm directories.

The site showed a lot of success in other areas that we can’t make public for competitive reasons.

Security Apps for Smartphones

The Best Security Apps for Your Smartphone

Security concerns and problems are on the rise day by day on all platforms, be it iOS, Blackberry or Android everyone needs to do something about their safety and the security of their smart device. Today most online attacks are in fact targeted towards people accessing networks from their handheld device, this is largely because there are so many users and the fact that they are a lot easier to break into and mostly provide the same information as a regular computer. However many people may not have security measures in place simply because they don’t know what to do about it, here is a list of useful security apps you can employ to help you out. To get away from apps like an Android spy or a Blackberry spy.

The ESET story

One of the more popular security apps being put to use these days is ESET Mobile Security, developed by the security firm ESET this app features SIM card recognition together with some other features if your main concern for your smartphone is its physical safety, in the case of a stolen phone this would be a good app to have on the device. It does lack one more common feature and that is the ability to tell what apps installed on the device are doing while they run. It’s also unable to tell you details about app permissions.

Have Some McAfee

A well known name in the security industry is McAfee which has long been around securing personal computer systems and has now also moved in to the smartphone industry. McAfee mobile security is an interesting app, regularly scanning and prompting the user about what is happening on the phone. This is a free service, and also has a paid version which will cost $29.99 annually, and it also comes with the added benefit that you get unlimited cloud storage space.

Secure Through F-Secure

F-Secure mobile security has recently launched the 7.6 version of its smartphone application and seems to be doing pretty well with it. F-Secure mobile security 7.7 also features special parental controls to cater to people looking for a security solution for the entire family, amongst other things that it has on offer. F-Secure is a little pricier than the rest charging an annual fee of $39.99 for premium services, and otherwise also offering a free service.

Guarding You with Bitdefender

Bitdefender is a security solution which will not clutter up your phone and is available for only $9.99 per year. There is also a free version of the app available which will quietly sink in to the background and go about its business; however an evaluation by various websites about the application report that it is not as powerful as its current counterparts.

Lock Out Malware with Lookout

The highly acclaimed Lookout security service is not only very highly recommended but it is also one of the very few, and the only one on this list, which is truly a smartphone security solution. With no history in protecting computers Lookout is an app developed purely for smartphone use and has not taken any of its features from its interface on another medium. Looks are not its only selling point and in fact combines a heavy duty antivirus with versatile features for example an app auditor which will tell you about the apps you are running in detail. More so with Lookout installed you will also be protected by a firewall which the security app deploys on the device not to mention a wide variety of things that you can do to your device remotely, so in the case that your device is lost or has been stolen you can easily clear the device of all sensitive information and even locate it. For $29.99 a year it’s a bargain, and it has a free service.

Mobile Site: DebtDrs.com

Machi & Associates, PCI thought it would be nice to feature a few mobile sites just to help with the Mobile Website excitement  and our Get Mobilized campaign.

DebtDrs.com is the bankruptcy website of Arlington Bankruptcy Attorney, Ted Machi. Visit on your mobile phone.

The desktop version of DebtDrs.com has several hundred (maybe a thousand) pages of content about personal finance, bankrupty, bankruptcy law, etc.  The mobile version focuses on the important information a mobile user may want.

The mobile site features the firm’s TV commercials – you may recognize “the Debt Dr.”  It also allows users to schedual an initial consultation on their mobile phone.  My favorite part of the site is the maps app opening on my iPhone when I click the Google button.  I am able to immediately route my way to the Lawfirm’s location.

Mobile Site: HandsomeWeb.com

HandsomeWeb Mobile SiteI thought it would be nice to feature a few mobile sites just to help with the Mobile Website excitement  and our forthcoming Get Mobilized campaign.

I should quickly move to our own mobile site because I like it, and the link won’t hurt our SEO.

I followed all the rules with the HandsomeWeb site.  The content was cut back a little bit, but the information a mobile user would look for is here.

Web Design, Search Engine Optimization, and WordPress Development are features on the mobile site.

The Blog portion of our mobile site is a WordPress Mobile theme tweaked to look to match our site.  The main mobile site doesn’t link to the blog, but if you happen to land on a blog page while surfing, you’ll get a mobile page.  We decided to prepare for mobile visitors because a lot of our blog posts have started appearing in search engines.

Mobile Site: PlanFactory.com

Sample Mobile Web DesignI thought it would be nice to feature a few mobile sites just to help with the Mobile Website excitement  and our forthcoming Get Mobilized campaign.

First up is PlanFactory.com. Visit on your mobile device! The mobile site is displayed on my iPhone.

The Plan Factory provides custom home designs.  Clients are able to communicate with the company via their mobile site.  If the Plan Factory is designing your new home, and you are revising the plans to include one more restroom – this may happen:  The architect uploads the current version of the plan, and you receive a text message on your phone.  You go to the site, login, and see the message from the designer.  You have question and send it straight to your designer.  Clients can also schedule a face to face appointment right from the mobile site.

Posting to Twitter and Facebook on WordPress

It sounds easy.  Publish on WordPress and see your post tweeted and posted on Facebook.    I have used Facebook apps and WordPress plugins with some success, but eventually they were all disappointing me.  They would miss some posts, post blank images, stop working completely (Facebook seems to change daily.).

I have SEO clients with blogs and the tie to social networks is very important and convenient.

NextScrips has finally given me one that works.  I am only using it to post to Facebook and Twitter, but the plugin called, “Social Networks Auto Poster” allows your blog posts to immediately appear on Google+, Pinterest, and Tumbler also.

HINT: Follow the detailed instructions.  You must setup up Apps on Twitter and Facebook. This is easier than it sounds, but follow the instructions.
